Founded in 1996 by Lance London to serve home cooked fare based on his grandmother’s recipes. The Hyattsville restaurant was established in 2009 in a low-income census tract and a CDFI Qualified Investment census tract. London was honored in 2012 as a recipient of the Minority Business Leader Award by the Washington Business Journal for his entrepreneurial drive, creativity and success. In that same year Carolina Kitchen received Best Soul Food Restaurant recognition by the Hoodie Awards.
